The O’Donnell family has been in the fishing industry for four generations fishing off the rich coastal waters off the West of Ireland.
In 1980 Patrick O’ Donnell bought his first fishing vessel the 36ft crabber “John Michelle”. A number of years later he invested in a new larger vessel, the 40ft crabber ‘’Rachel Mary”. This boat required a crew of 3 and fished crab primarily from February – November.
In 2002 his eldest son Jonathan joined the family business as a deck hand on board the “Rachel Mary” and 2 years later he purchased his own new vessel the 38ft crabber ‘’James Collins’’. In 2011 as the business grew from strength to strength, Patrick’s other son, Patrick (Jnr) who learned his trade while fishing with Jonathan on the ‘’James Collins’’ also decided to invest in a new vessel the 33ft Catamaran “Aisling Patrick”. Two years later, following the success of the “Aisling Patrick”, Jonathan decided to also invest in a Catamaran and in September 2013 the “Michelle Na Mara” arrived on our shores to join the ever increasing fleet.
As the demand for crab increased the business expanded and in 2014 both Patrick & Jonathan decided it was time to purchase larger vessels that could fish all year round. In January 2016, Jonathans 50ft state of the art crabber “Sean Óg” arrived on the West Coast of Ireland, Patricks vessel is due to join the fleet in the coming months.
